Mindset is so important because what you think about you bring about, I truly believe that if you put your mind to something you will do it. I talk about mindset a lot in my groups and with my one on one clients. It is better to look at the bright side than to get bogged down with what can go wrong, but how do we do that?
The other day one of my clients was saying she wanted to lose 20 pounds by the time she left for her vacation. She was very concerned that she would not make her goal so we looked at her plan to lose weight and talked about the best plan to lose this weight. We had a good plan and about 6 weeks for her to do this and as we were getting off the phone she said I don’t think I will be able to do it. I was stunned, we had spent an hour on the phone discussing and planning and I felt like she had this. So I stopped her and I said ok, why do you not feel good about the plan? She said I have not been able to do it before. So I replied, well, have you ever tried this plan before? She laughed and said no, so I said then you really don’t know, right? She paused and replied, you are right I don’t know. I am just worried. I asked her why she was worried about not losing the weight, what was so important about losing the weight that fast? Was it that she would lose her job if she didn’t lose the weight? Was it that her friend would not like her if she didn’t lose the weight? To both of these questions she said no and laughed heartily. Then she relaxed, I could hear it in her voice. So I said what if you lose 15 pounds by the time you leave, wouldn’t that be good? She laughed and said yes it would.
I tell you this story not to discourage you about losing 20 pounds in 6 weeks, but to let you see how we put these thoughts in our head and feel overwhelmed and then we don’t even try. Don’t fall into this trap! Set your mind to it and do your best to do it, if you fall a little short, its ok, look at the progress you did make!! By the way, she has lost 11 pounds and still has 10 days until her trip! How’s that for mind set!! You have a plan, you have the tools, you can do it!
